Dec 13, 2019 · The guitar features a swamp ash body, signature custom pickups, an ashtray-style 'top loader' Tele bridge that allows you to string through the bridge in order to make string bends easier. Alternatively, you can string through the body as Teles are more commonly setup.

Fender went to top loaders to save money, but the customers said, NO! Sales fell off and Fender went back to string through. I doubt today, like Papa Joe with my old tinnitus ringing ears if I could tell the difference.

I doubt that is enough to make any difference in feel, and as I said, I don't notice any difference. I have two string through Teles, and one top loader. I find absolutely 0% difference in string tension or feel.
Get a quoteMay 06, 2014 · There definitely is a difference in string tension. I can't comment fairly on the differences in sound since they both have difference pickups. However, I did record both through the same amp, playing the same riff and the top-loader was warmer with more mids, whilst the string-through had a stronger treble (almost sounded scooped in comparison).

The Bigsby was the first successful design of what is now called a whammy bar or tremolo arm, although vibrato is the technically correct term for the musical effect it produces. In standard usage, tremolo is a rapid fluctuation of the volume of a note, while vibrato is a fluctuation in pitch.

Get a quoteCompared to a top loader, about 3 to 4cm of extra string length is used on string-through-body guitars to get it through the body. The break angle on string-through-body is sharp and has to be just to get through to the back of the guitar, whereas a top load guitar's break angle isn't sharp at …

Get a quoteMar 16, 2016 · I think that's probably why no one picked top loader in the poll, even though few were opposed in the thread, and I find that kind of interesting. There are exceptions to the rule (Jim Campilongo plays a top loader tele, and TDPRI has a top loader tele club), but string-through is largely an aesthetic we've come to expect with Fender I suppose.

It's a matter personal preference. There are so many other things that make a more substantial difference.
Get a quoteSep 17, 2019 · The two "critical points" in sounding a note are at the nut (or fretted note) and bridge saddle . The bridge, via the saddle, transmits vibration to the body so the coupling there makes a huge difference (why many, regardless of top load or string through, remove the bridge and sand the bottom to ensure an absolute flush joint).

When you hear those guys you are most likely hearing a traditional string-through Telecaster. But for just about one year back in 1959 Fender decided for whatever reason to eliminate the string-through design and go with the top-loader.

I'd rather not debate the merits of investing a lot of money into a $180 guitar (grin), this really is more of a question about the top-load bridge. Another alternative is something like the MIM Robert Cray Strat, about $925 (see one for about $780, used, which is fine too), string-through.
